R&D Activities Presentation

Engineering and R&D

The Engineering and R & D functions are staffed with highly skilled and experienced scientific personnel and employ sophisticated well equipped laboratories. Engineering offers its support and assistance to the company's production for solving difficult and complicated technical problems. R & D participates in the design and development of electronic and telecommunication programmes, as well as in the aerostructures manufacturing programmes, and operate a composite materials and processes laboratory which is involved in developing products and testing methods for use in the aerospace industry.

Some of the products developed by HAI's R&D, are listed below:
  • RPV "PEGASUS"
  • Falcon 900 a/c aft fuselage fuel tank
  • Artillery fire control system (computer with gun display terminal)
  • Passive night vision scope
  • 16 channel military switchboard
  • Digital message device
  • Surveillance gun periscope
  • Wide band encryption
  • Also R&D department participates in various E.U. research projects, such as, the Esprit Project 20912 "AMATEUR" (Advanced MechAtronics TEchnology for TUrbine Blades Repair). The project aims at developing the technology for the automation of the finishing process for the repair of blades of aircraft engines. The processes addressed by H.A.I. are :

    1) The tip grinding of the jet engine guide vanes (stages #4 and #7 of the H.P.C.

of a particular Allison low by-pas turbofan engine).

    2) The precision grinding/contouring of small size super alloy blades. This case

study involves the turbine assembly of a jet fuel gas turbine engine starter.

The other partners of the project are: ZENON (GR), IWT (D), BIBA (D), APS (D),  STAUBLI (F).

Another E.U. program that HAI participates is the Brite Euram project BRPR 1075 related with the Structural Maintenance of Ageing Aircraft (SMAAC).
